GATE 2026 Admit Card Release Postponed by IIT Guwahati

New Delhi, January 2, 2026, 11:36 AM IST

In a last-minute update, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has postponed the release of the admit cards for the GATE 2026 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering).

The hall tickets, originally scheduled to be available for download on January 2, 2026, will now be issued on a revised date that the institute promises to announce shortly.

A prominent notice on the official GATE 2026 website (gate2026.iitg.ac.in) reads: “The release date of the GATE 2026 admit card has been postponed, and the revised release date will be announced soon.”

No specific reason for the delay has been provided by the organising institute, leaving lakhs of aspirants in a state of anticipation.

The postponement comes just as candidates were gearing up to download their hall tickets ahead of the examination. GATE is a crucial national-level exam that serves as a gateway for admissions to postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, science, and humanities at premier institutions like the IITs and NITs, besides qualifying candidates for recruitment in several public sector undertakings (PSUs).

Importantly, IIT Guwahati has confirmed that the examination schedule remains unchanged. The GATE 2026 exams will be conducted across multiple shifts on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The detailed paper-wise schedule is already available on the official website.

Candidates are advised to regularly check the GATE 2026 portal for updates on the new admit card release date. Once available, aspirants can download their hall tickets by logging into the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) using their enrolment ID and password.

A printed copy of the admit card, along with a valid photo ID, is mandatory for entry into the examination centre.

This year’s GATE features 30 test papers, including full papers and sectional ones, with candidates allowed to appear in one or up to two papers. Mock test links are already live on the website to help students familiarise themselves with the computer-based test format.

While the delay may cause some inconvenience, authorities have assured that it will not impact the overall conduct of the examination. Results are expected to be declared on March 19, 2026.
