Talk Cinema On The Floor August Edition in Delhi highlighted editing, empathy, and real stories, nurturing new voices in filmmaking and cinema.

New Delhi, August 30, 2025 – The New Delhi Film Foundation (NDFF), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Creative Skills (IICS), Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC), and Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts & Creativity (SACAC), successfully hosted the August Chapter of Talk Cinema On The Floor (TCOTF) at the IICS-MESC Centre, Lajpat Nagar.

This was the third monthly edition of TCOTF, a non-profit initiative aimed at building a meaningful ecosystem for cinema and filmmaking in Delhi-NCR. The platform is designed to give creative talents opportunities to learn, connect, and grow, while also cultivating public sensitivity and awareness towards good cinema.

Craft & Crew: The Art of Editing

The Craft & Crew segment featured Praveen Jain, FTII alumnus, former faculty in Editing at FTII Pune, and Assistant Professor at Sharda University. With over 14 years of academic and industry experience, Jain emphasized that editing is not just about “cutting and joining shots” but about “giving rhythm and meaning to cinema.” Using examples from iconic films like Sholay, Devdas, and Chak De India, he illustrated how editing shapes narrative flow, emotion, and impact. Jain urged young filmmakers to value discipline over mere technical knowledge.

Spotlight: Stories Rooted in Life

The Spotlight session featured Sohini Dasgupta, acclaimed filmmaker and writer from Kolkata. Her praised feature Chhoti Moti Baatein (Sweet Home), based on the true story of two sisters battling depression during six months of isolation in Noida, was showcased at the Busan International Film Festival and the Kerala International Film Festival. Sohini also spoke about her collaborations with her husband, the legendary director Buddhadeb Dasgupta, including scripting his final film Uro Jahaj (The Flight) in 2020. She recounted how Buddhadeb da shot in the forests of Jharkhand despite undergoing dialysis three times a week. Offering advice to young filmmakers, Sohini said: “Never lose humor and empathy in life or in cinema.”

Make Cinema Campaign: Small Films, Big Voices

NDFF Founder Ashish K Singh shared updates on the Make Cinema campaign. Under this flagship initiative, six short films are planned in six months, each rooted in realism and social concerns. Selected filmmakers from Delhi are currently finalizing their screenplays with mentorship support from industry professionals and experienced scriptwriters.

With its growing participation and engaging sessions, Talk Cinema On The Floor is fast emerging as a vital platform for nurturing creative talent and fostering a healthy cinematic culture in Delhi-NCR.
