New Delhi | October 24, 2025 | The Interview Times—The Government of India has announced the Bharat International Rice Conference 2025 (BIRC 2025), scheduled for October 30–31 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The first-of-its-kind global Rice Conference 2025 aims to strengthen India’s leadership in global rice exports, unlock ₹1.8 lakh crore in new markets, and sign ₹25,000 crore worth of export MoUs.

Organized by the Indian Rice Exporters’ Federation (IREF) and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the Rice Conference 2025 aligns with Viksit Bharat @2047, promoting sustainability, innovation, and transparent trade practices.

High-Level Global Participation at Rice Conference 2025

At the curtain-raiser event, APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev announced that Foreign Ministers from the Philippines, Ghana, Namibia, and The Gambia will attend the Rice Conference 2025, reflecting its international prominence.

Over 1,000 foreign buyers from 80+ countries, 2,500 Indian exporters and millers, and 3,000 farmers and FPOs are expected to join the two-day summit, making it one of the largest agri-export events ever hosted in India.

India, the world’s largest rice exporter, currently supplies rice to 172 countries. In FY 2024–25, India produced 150 million tonnes of rice and exported 20.1 million metric tonnes, valued at USD 12.95 billion.

Improved yields—from 2.72 to 3.2 tonnes per hectare—and advancements in agricultural technology have boosted India’s competitiveness. With 4 billion people worldwide depending on rice, the global rice economy, valued at USD 330 billion, is central to global food security.

Strategic Market Redirection: Key Agenda for Rice Conference 2025

A key goal of BIRC 2025 is to diversify and redirect rice imports from competitors like Thailand and Vietnam. The conference has identified 26 high-potential markets, including:

  • Philippines: USD 2.470 billion
  • Vietnam: USD 1.463 billion
  • Iraq: USD 1.661 billion
  • United States: USD 1.194 billion
