THEINTERVIEWTIMES.COM | 15 November 2025: India’s affordable medicines mission received a major boost today as Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda inaugurated the 10th Anniversary of AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) Pharmacy at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event celebrated a decade of the government’s effort to ensure equitable access to essential medicines and implants.

Launched in 2015, AMRIT Pharmacy has grown into a major national healthcare intervention, offering 50%–90% discounts on life-saving drugs and medical implants. Over the last ten years, the network has delivered medicines worth ₹17,000 crore (MRP) at discounted prices, enabling cumulative patient savings of ₹8,500 crore.

AMRIT Network to Expand from 255 to 500 Outlets

Highlighting AMRIT’s growing impact, Shri Nadda announced a nationwide expansion to at least 500 outlets, nearly doubling the current network of 255 functional pharmacies. HLL Lifecare Ltd., the implementing agency, pledged full support to achieve this expansion in the near future.

He emphasized that every medical college and every district hospital in India must have an AMRIT pharmacy, ensuring last-mile access to affordable medicines. Shri Nadda also noted that all AIIMS across India already host AMRIT outlets, marking a strong foundation for future growth.

Affordable Medicines Benefited 6.85 Crore Patients

In the last decade, over 6.85 crore patients have directly benefited from AMRIT’s high-discount model. The initiative has proven particularly impactful for economically weaker patients who rely on affordable treatment options for chronic diseases and life-saving therapies.

Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava underscored AMRIT’s role in furthering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of universal, equitable, and affordable healthcare. She praised HLL and the AMRIT team for operating with “Josh, Junoon and Jazbaat — energy, enthusiasm and spirit.”

  • AMRIT ITes – Eco Green Version 2.0 launched to enhance transparency, efficiency and eco-friendly digital operations
  • Customised My Stamp released in collaboration with India Post
  • Mobile Pharmacy Van flagged off for NCR region to deliver affordable medicines to rural and underserved areas
  • 24×7 National Contact Centre launched for real-time support on medicine availability, pricing, and nearest outlet details

A Coffee Table Book documenting AMRIT’s decade-long journey and impact was also released.
