Ola Shakti: Powering India’s Energy Independence
Aggarwal described Ola Shakti as a “nation-first innovation,” aimed at turning energy storage into energy independence. Built entirely on indigenous technology, the system uses Ola’s 4680 Bharat Cells—manufactured at its Tamil Nadu Gigafactory—to deliver what the company calls India’s first fully homegrown residential BESS.
“India doesn’t have an energy shortage—it has an energy storage opportunity,” Aggarwal said, adding that Ola Shakti integrates solar storage, voltage stability, and power portability into one modular solution.

Product Specifications, Pricing, and Availability
The Ola Shakti lineup features four variants—1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh—priced respectively at ₹29,999, ₹55,999, ₹1,19,999, and ₹1,59,999 for the first 10,000 units. Pre-bookings are now open for ₹999, with deliveries scheduled to begin on Makar Sankranti 2026.
Each Ola Shakti unit boasts 98% efficiency, instant zero-millisecond changeover during power cuts, and IP67-certified durability for outdoor installation.
Designed for both rural and urban use, the system can power air conditioners, refrigerators, farm pumps, routers, and induction cookers, offering up to 1.5 hours of full-load backup with a two-hour charging time.
The device also comes with smart features such as:
- Real-time energy monitoring through the Ola Shakti App
- Time-of-day scheduling for optimized power use
- Over-the-air updates and remote diagnostics
- Solar plug-and-play compatibility
Together, these features position Ola Shakti as not just a battery—but a digital energy hub tailored for Indian households and small businesses.
Market Impact: Ola Electric Shares Surge
Following the announcement, Ola Electric’s shares hit the upper circuit, surging 5% to ₹55.20 on the National Stock Exchange and marking a 10% two-day gain. Market analysts attributed the rise to investor optimism around Ola Shakti’s market potential and the company’s diversification into India’s fast-expanding energy storage market, which is projected to triple to ₹3 lakh crore by 2030.

Ola Shakti and the Future of Clean Energy
Aggarwal emphasized that Ola Shakti’s production required no new capital expenditure, as it leverages the existing Ola Gigafactory infrastructure. The company aims to scale its BESS production capacity to 5 GWh annually, potentially outpacing its EV battery manufacturing output.
“We didn’t name the company Ola Auto; we named it Ola Electric,” Aggarwal noted. “Our goal has always been to control the entire energy value chain—from cell manufacturing to storage and distribution.”
Strategic Step Toward Atmanirbhar Bharat
Experts see Ola-Shakti as a crucial milestone in India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat journey, strengthening domestic manufacturing and energy resilience. With India aiming to decarbonize its grid and expand renewable capacity, Ola-Shakti provides a scalable, locally built energy storage solution—especially vital for rural and remote regions with unstable power supply.
The initiative also aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and clean-tech roadmap, reinforcing Ola Electric’s position as a leader at the crossroads of technology, sustainability, and energy innovation.
