Walmart to Remodel 650 Stores in 2025, Unveils ‘Store of the Future’ Vision

Walmart has announced a sweeping plan to remodel more than 650 stores across 47 states and Puerto Rico in 2025, rolling out its ambitious “Store of the Future” concept to millions of shoppers nationwide. The initiative, part of a multi-billion dollar investment, aims to deliver a more modern, convenient, and engaging shopping experience for customers.

The remodels will feature bold new signage, refreshed exteriors and interiors, and improved layouts designed to give shoppers and employees more space. Expanded departments and new product selections will be showcased with redesigned displays, while checkout areas will be updated for greater efficiency and flexibility, including both staffed and self-checkout lanes.

A major focus of the renovations is on Walmart’s pharmacy and healthcare services. Pharmacies will be relocated to the front of stores and expanded to include wider aisles, private screening rooms, and privacy checkout areas-enhancements aimed at providing greater comfort and confidentiality for customers seeking medical advice or filling prescriptions. Vision centers will also be modernized, offering a broader assortment of designer eyewear and prescription options.

Walmart is also ramping up its online order pickup and delivery capabilities in remodeled locations, reflecting the growing demand for digital shopping and fulfillment options. The company says these changes are designed to “reflect the community they serve” and ensure stores “enable people to shop the way they want to shop,” whether in-store, online, or through pickup and delivery services.

Texas will see the largest share of remodels, with 67 stores slated for updates in 2025, underscoring Walmart’s continued investment in one of its most important markets.

Walmart first introduced the Store of the Future concept in late 2023, and customer response has been overwhelmingly positive. “Customers love this concept in the places we’ve already rolled it out, and we’re excited to transition more and more of our fleet,” said John Furner, Walmart U.S. CEO.

With these extensive upgrades, Walmart is reinforcing its position as a leader in retail innovation, aiming to set a new standard for the in-store shopping experience across America
