PM Modi at 75: Swadeshi Push Amid Global Challenges
The birthday address came at a critical time when India faces global trade turbulence. With recent U.S. tariffs on Indian imports rising up to 50%, export-driven industries have been hit, forcing a shift toward strengthening domestic consumption and manufacturing.
Framing Swadeshi as an economic necessity rather than mere sentiment, PM Modi at 75 said: “Whatever you buy should be Made in India. This ensures money stays within the country, building roads, schools, and health centers, while supporting the poor and widowed mothers.”
He urged traders to proudly display boards reading “Garv se kaho, yeh Swadeshi hai” (Say with pride, this is Swadeshi) and called for nationwide exhibitions to showcase artisans, MSMEs, and local products. The timing coincides with the festive season beginning with Navratri on September 22, urging families to choose indigenous products over foreign imports during Diwali shopping.
Drawing parallels with the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, PM Modi at 75 said: “Atmanirbhar Bharat is the key to Viksit Bharat,” while promising simplified GST reforms to make Indian goods more competitive.
Blending Self-Reliance With National Pride
The rally also carried strong undertones of national pride. PM Modi at 75 hailed the Indian Army’s valor during Operation Sindoor, a counter-terror mission in the region, calling it an example of a “New India” resilient against both economic and security challenges.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, yoga guru Baba Ramdev announced a parallel nationwide Swadeshi campaign in honor of PM Modi at 75, which includes:
- A 15-day talent award program for 10,000 top students across boards.
- 750 free medical camps targeting lifestyle diseases such as fatty liver.
- A campaign to “liberate India from economic slavery.”
Ramdev described Modi as a leader embodying “Swadeshi Dharma, Rashtra Dharma, Rajya Dharma, and Sanatan Dharma,” committed to building a Viksit Bharat.

Social Media and Public Reactions
Soon after the rally, social media platforms lit up with messages of support. Clips of PM Modi at 75 addressing the Dhar gathering went viral, with hashtags like #Swadeshi75 trending nationwide. Supporters hailed it as a game-changer for artisans and MSMEs, while praising the PM MITRA Textile Park for its potential to create jobs.
Critics, however, argued that this was a continuation of Modi’s “Vocal for Local” campaign first launched during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. But with India’s manufacturing sector now contributing 17% to GDP and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes gaining traction, many believe the Swadeshi Movement 2025 is gaining real momentum.
The Festive Season Litmus Test
As chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” echoed at the end of the rally, the message of PM Modi at 75 stood clear: Swadeshi is both a duty and a strategy. The real test will come in the festive weeks ahead, as millions of Indians throng bazaars for Navratri and Diwali shopping.
Will the Swadeshi spirit of 1905 find new life in 2025? If consumer choices shift toward Made in India products, the vision of Self-Reliant India may indeed take a decisive leap toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
