PM Modi launches ₹42,000 crore PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission to transform 100 districts and empower 1.7 crore farmers.
New Delhi | October 11, 2025 | The Interview Times — Prime Minister Narendra Modi today unveiled a historic ₹42,000 crore agricultural investment, marking a new era for Indian farming with the launch of two flagship initiatives — the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission.
The announcement at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, aims to transform 100 underperforming districts, modernize rural infrastructure, and ensure food security for over 1.7 crore farmers.
The schemes arrive as India begins its rabi sowing season, underscoring the Modi government’s long-term commitment to agricultural self-reliance and sustainable rural growth.

₹24,000 Crore PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana to Revive 100 Districts
At the heart of the government’s agricultural transformation is the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) — a ₹24,000 crore, six-year program targeting 100 districts with historically low yields and poor irrigation facilities.
The plan consolidates 36 separate agricultural schemes into a unified model to maximize efficiency, transparency, and impact.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will empower small and marginal farmers — who make up 86% of India’s agricultural workforce — by improving irrigation, expanding market access, and integrating digital tools like AI-based crop monitoring and soil health tracking.
“Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Indian agriculture is set to become the food basket of the world,” Chouhan said, emphasizing that the program will directly benefit 1.7 crore farmers through new technology, crop insurance, and sustainable farming practices.
The PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will also promote skill development and encourage eco-friendly cultivation through training in water management, organic fertilizers, and precision agriculture.

Mission for Pulses Self-Reliance: A ₹11,440 Crore Step Toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat
The government simultaneously launched the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, a bold ₹11,440 crore initiative under the broader PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana framework. Recognizing India’s heavy dependence on imports despite being the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses, the mission sets clear national targets:
- Expand pulses cultivation from 27.5 million hectares to 31 million hectares by 2030-31
- Boost output from 24.2 million tonnes to 35 million tonnes
- Increase productivity from 880 kg/hectare to 1,130 kg/hectare
A major reform is the 100% government procurement of registered farmers’ pulses at Minimum Support Price (MSP) — ensuring stable income and incentivizing domestic production. This will reduce import dependency, stabilize prices, and strengthen India’s food security architecture.

Massive Allied Sector and Infrastructure Investments
Beyond the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundations for over ₹6,200 crore worth of allied sector projects spanning agriculture, fisheries, and food processing.
Key developments include:
- Artificial insemination centers in Bengaluru and Jammu & Kashmir
- Milk powder plants in Mehsana, Indore, and Bhilwara
- Fish feed plant in Tezpur, Assam
- 1,100 rural projects focused on cold storage, logistics, and digital extension services
These investments are designed to build a resilient rural economy, integrating production, processing, and distribution networks to reduce post-harvest losses and increase value addition at the grassroots.
India’s Path to Agricultural Self-Reliance
Since 2014, India’s food grain production has increased by 40%, with record outputs in wheat, rice, maize, groundnut, and soybean. The PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana seeks to build on this success, ensuring long-term productivity, sustainability, and resilience in the face of climate change.
Prime Minister Modi urged farmers to adopt climate-smart technologies, crop diversification, and digital innovation.
“These schemes will fast-track India’s rise as an agricultural powerhouse, ensuring prosperity for farmers and food security for every Indian,” Modi said at the launch.
The PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission together form a blueprint for rural transformation — connecting farmers to markets, modernizing supply chains, and empowering rural India with opportunities for the 21st century.
