New Delhi, January 6, 2026, 12:55 p.m. IST: In a bid to streamline the application process, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an advisory urging candidates for the NEET UG 2026 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2026) to verify and update essential identification and certification documents well before registration begins.
The notice, published on the NTA’s official website on January 5, highlights the importance of accurate documentation to avoid application rejections, delays in processing, or complications during counselling.
Aadhaar and Other Key Documents
Candidates are advised to ensure their Aadhaar details including name, date of birth (matching Class 10 records), gender, photograph, address, and biometric information, are correct and up to date.
Updates can be made through the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) portals- myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in or uidai.gov.in.
For applicants under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category, the NTA has emphasized the need for a valid and renewed Unique Disability Identification (UDID) card or disability certificate.
Similarly, candidates seeking reservation benefits under categories such as Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Other Backward Classes Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), or Scheduled Tribe (ST) must ensure their category certificates are updated in line with the latest government guidelines.

Registration Timeline
While the exact dates for NEET UG 2026 registration and examination have not yet been announced, the exam is traditionally held on the first Sunday of May. This year, it is expected to take place on May 3, 2026.
Expert Insights
Education experts note that the advisory is a proactive response to recurring issues in previous years, where mismatched or outdated documents created hurdles for lakhs of applicants. By encouraging early preparation, the NTA aims to reduce last-minute rushes and technical glitches during the online submission process.
Candidate Advisory
Aspiring medical students are strongly advised to monitor the official portals- nta.ac.in and neet.nta.nic.in for updates on registration schedules, the detailed information bulletin, and further instructions.
With over 20 lakh candidates expected to appear for NEET UG annually, timely compliance with this advisory could prove crucial for ensuring a smooth entry into the highly competitive race for undergraduate medical seats across India.
