Strengthening Strategic Partnership
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold high-level talks with King Abdullah II, focusing on regional stability, counter-terrorism cooperation, and deepening political dialogue. The leaders are expected to discuss the situation in West Asia, particularly challenges arising from ongoing regional conflicts and their implications for global peace and energy security.
India and Jordan have maintained close diplomatic coordination on issues such as counter-extremism, peacekeeping, and multilateral cooperation in the United Nations. Both countries share a common stance on combating radicalization and promoting intercultural dialogue.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Indian Ambassador to Jordan Manish Chauhan said, “This visit marks a very important time for both countries to elevate their bilateral ties to a new strategic level.”
Expanding Economic and Trade Relations
Economic cooperation stands at the core of Modi’s Jordan visit. India is currently Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade valued at approximately USD 2.8 billion in 2024–25. Jordan is a key supplier of phosphates and potash, vital for India’s agricultural sector.
A highlight of the visit will be a business summit in Amman, where Prime Minister Modi will address business leaders from both countries, exploring avenues for collaboration in fertilizers, renewable energy, IT services, and pharmaceuticals.
The Jordan India Fertilizer Company (JIFCO), a successful joint venture between the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) and the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC), stands as a pillar of this partnership. Commissioned in 2015, JIFCO produces phosphoric acid for India’s domestic fertilizer industry and symbolizes long-term sectoral cooperation.
Cultural Diplomacy and High-Level Engagements
Beyond strategic and trade discussions, Modi’s itinerary includes a visit to the ancient city of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II. The visit to Petra is expected to highlight India’s cultural diplomacy and shared historical appreciation for heritage preservation.
The Prime Minister is also expected to engage with the Indian diaspora, estimated at around 17,000 people living and working in Jordan. The community has been instrumental in strengthening people-to-people ties and supporting India’s growing economic presence in the Middle East.

Part of Larger Regional Outreach
The Jordan visit constitutes the first leg of Modi’s three-nation diplomatic tour that also includes Ethiopia (December 16–17) and Oman (December 17–18). The broader tour reflects India’s emphasis on expanding partnerships across Africa and West Asia, regions critical for its strategic and economic interests.
Analysts note that the visit aligns with India’s “Act West Policy”, aimed at boosting connectivity, securing energy imports, and diversifying trade routes through sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.
As India and Jordan mark 75 years of diplomatic friendship, Modi’s visit is expected to open a new chapter in bilateral relations, combining strategic dialogue with strong economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
