Social Media: Addiction or Myth!
Social Media is a tool that is becoming quite popular these days because of it’s user-friendly features. Social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and more are giving people a chance to connect and create audience, across distances. Sometimes, it helps us to come in contact with long lost friends, in fact, few months earlier I also met some of my childhood friends through Social Media…In other words, the whole world is at our fingertips all thanks to Social Media.
Advantages of Social Media
Social Media is an excellent opportunity for you to grow your business, spread your views, propagate your agenda, promote yourself or your organisation. Even political parties can’t win the election without social media.
You reach large audiences: There are millions of people using social media platforms. It’s a great opportunity for your business to reach a large pool of people that are interested in your products or services.
•You have a direct connection with your audience: You can chat with them, you can add them in your live sessions on Instagram / Facebook .
•If you are a Youtuber or a Fashion Blogger, you can collaborate with other creators, to connect with new people.
•You can build traffic to your website by advertising it on Social Media.
Disadvantages of Social Media
It’s harmful because it invades your privacy like never before. The oversharing our pictures happening on Social Media makes people target for predators and hackers. It also leads to Cyberbullying; which affects any person significantly.
•Causes distraction: Social Media is a huge distraction in schools and throughout the school day. Snapchat is a prime example. Schools have to take measures like blocking the applications because students are messing around on their phones rather than paying attention.
•Reduces Family Closeness: The impact of Social Media is a powerful one. Most often technology can bring forth negative interaction, or zero interaction between siblings, couples, or parent-child. It starves the family of learning and modeling with each other social cues, interpersonal relationship skills, communication skills, and bonding.
How Social Media affects students?
Study finds that college students are ‘addicted’ to Social Media and experience withdrawal symtoms similar to substance related addictions. Study also finds that students using seven to eleven Social Media Networks experience depression and anxiety symtoms.
CONCLUSION
Everything has 2 sides, first is Positive impact and second is Negative impact, same with Social Media. Social Media have both, Advantages and Disadvantages. There is always fun using Social Media, but if we use this continuously 2 to 3 hours regularly, it means we’re addicted to it. I’m not saying, that don’t use Social Media. You should use Social Media, because there are many things we should know about our country, and everything is available in Social Media, I’m saying use it but in a limit. It also depend that what we are taking from social media? Knowledge or poision? If one uses social media intelligently it could be big boon for him and if don’t do wisely it could be bane.
“Social Media not only snatches your time, but it also teaches you attention deficiency”. “Today, spend a little time cultivating relationships offline. Never forget that everybody isn’t on Social Media”.
